How A Struggle Became the Solution for a Young Man

Many times, when people decide to start yoga, they ask me, “Will yoga solve all my problems, like bad digestion, knee pain, or anger issues?” That’s when I tell them this story.

In a small village, there lived a young man who constantly suffered from poor health. Though he was only around 28 or 30 years old, he always looked weary and troubled. His body lacked vitality, his eyes appeared sunken with constant worry, and his posture was hunched. His speech was unclear, and he seemed much older than his actual age.

He visited several doctors, took countless medicines, and spent a fortune on treatments, yet his health never improved. He was exhausted—not just physically but also mentally. His financial situation worsened as he could no longer work consistently due to his deteriorating condition. Eventually, someone suggested that he visit astrologers and spiritual healers. Desperate for a cure, he tried everything—rituals, prayers, and even expensive ceremonies. However, nothing worked.

One day, as he sat in utter despair, a relative told him about a sacred Vishnu temple located 60 miles away. “That temple is a place of great energy,” they said. “You should go there, serve for 15 days, bathe in the holy river, walk around the temple daily, and chant mantras. If you do this sincerely, Lord Vishnu will appear in your dreams and guide you toward healing.”

With newfound hope, the young man immediately set off for the temple. He dedicated himself to temple service for 15 days, strictly following the rituals prescribed by the priests. On the final night, as he slept, he had a dream where Lord Vishnu appeared and spoke to him.

“My child, your service has pleased me. Tell me, what do you seek?”

Overwhelmed with joy, the young man poured out his troubles—his poor health, financial struggles, and career worries. “Lord, everything can be fixed if my health improves. Please help me regain my strength,” he pleaded.

Lord Vishnu smiled and said, “You will find your cure, but you must perform one task. In your village, behind your house, there is a small hill, correct?”

“Yes, my Lord,” the young man replied.

“There is a large boulder at the base of the hill. You must push this boulder up to the top. It may seem difficult, but do not give up. Try for three months. Push the boulder every morning and evening, and in time, you will see results. Once you complete this task, return to this temple, meditate, and I will guide you further.”

The young man eagerly returned to his village and began his task. As he stood before the enormous boulder, his initial enthusiasm faded. The rock was massive, and pushing it up the hill seemed impossible. But he reminded himself that this was divine instruction, so he persisted.

Every morning and evening, he spent two hours trying to move the boulder. At first, it wouldn’t budge. He would return home exhausted, eat well, and sleep deeply, only to wake up and try again the next day. This routine continued for three months. He noticed subtle changes—his body grew stronger, his appetite improved, and he slept better. He no longer felt constantly fatigued.

After three months, he returned to the temple and meditated. That night, Lord Vishnu appeared in his dream again. The young man was confused. “Lord, I did everything you told me, but the boulder never moved. Have I failed?”

Vishnu laughed and asked, “Do you still feel sick?”

The young man paused. He realized that his health had completely transformed. His body was stronger, his energy was higher, and his mind was clearer. He was no longer suffering. Even his business had improved.

“The task was never about moving the boulder,” Vishnu explained. “It was about moving yourself. By focusing on pushing the boulder, you stopped worrying about your problems. You ate well, rested properly, and exercised daily. Your discipline healed you, not the rock.”

The young man folded his hands in gratitude. He finally understood—problems are not solved by dwelling on them. Instead, by focusing on positive actions, solutions emerge naturally.

Many times, when people decide to start yoga, they ask me, “Will yoga solve all my problems, like bad digestion, knee pain, or anger issues?” That’s when I tell them this story.

The same thing happens to those who join our course. They start practicing yoga just for fitness, but over 3 to 6 months, they notice real changes. Their thinking becomes clearer, digestion improves, energy levels rise, and they perform better in their profession. Some even mention that their relationships have improved.

So, if you practice yoga, don’t just focus on touching your head to your knee. Don’t get discouraged if your flexibility isn’t improving quickly. Yoga is transforming you in many ways—you just have to keep going.

“If you think about problems, you become part of the problem. If you think about solutions, you become part of the solution.”

So, the next time life places a boulder in your path, don’t fear it—push it. The journey itself might be the solution you’ve been seeking all along.
